I'm married

I found myself in a situation today where I bumblingly trapped myself in a lie. In the course of a conversation I missed a key word in a sentence and rather than asking the person to repeat himself I just sort of grunted an affirmative hoping that would suffice. It did and it didn't. It turns out the person had asked me if I was married, I found this out when he asked me how long I'd been married. Being inconveniently squirrelly I went ahead and made up a number. Seven months. Why? No idea. I ran with the premise that I was married the rest of the conversation, each time it came up I dug myself a little deeper, making it that much harder to explain myself.

Sigh.
